It was pretty exciting around here yesterday! Having lived in California for 30 of my 49 years you would think I was used to earthquakes, but I'm not sure you every are- at least not me! Lynn and I were at the office with Aunt Marcia and everything did fine- even the two glass walls that Lynn assured me afterwards were tempered glass and would just shatter into little chunks- I felt much better after he informed me of that. Whit had just left with Sydney for the beach but we got hold of her right away and they were okay-just wondering why the telephone pole at the stoplight were shaking back and forth! We were worried how the dogs did at home alone, but didn't even think about how close our house was to the center of the earthquake and really didn't worry about damage because it was only a 5.4- just moderate in size. Lynn and I headed down to NB and I got a call from my friend Karen who asked if we had gone home to check on things- she had gotten to her house to find lots of breakage- I of course immediately panicked about the dogs and she ran over to check on them while we headed home. Poor Karen was so worried- Trixie came right to her, but she couldn't find Emmie anywhere- after looking all over the house she went into the backyard and Emmie was by the front gate waiting and didn't want to come into the house! We were so surprised when we got home and walked through the house to find things off the walls, tipped over, and broken in every room! I have lived here for much bigger earthquakes and have never had any damage- maybe a picture frame knocked over, but not things broken and off the shelves. All of our drawers that faced a certain way were open and luckily only a few cupboards opened and had things fall out. I guess it was just our proximity to the center that caused the damage- but can you imagine if it had been much bigger??? They were saying a 6.4 would be a 1,000 times stronger and so on- it might be time to rethink where I have some things placed and time to get some cupboard latches! Oh, and this morning we have NO WATER- they had a water main break and a pumping station go down in Fullerton so we may not have it back until tomorrow!!!
This is everything that was broken- so sad!
Our house shook front to back and thankfully this hutch was perpendicular to that otherwise we would have lost everything on it. Right before the open house I had put my great-aunt's china from the 1920's up in the hutch and then decided I didn't like it there- thank heavens!!!
We found poor Trixie passed out- Emmie refused to come into the house and when we got home and opened the garage door she stuck her head in the cat door to the garage but wouldn't come to us!
These are pictures of how we found everything- it was just such a surprise to walk through the house and find things broken and down in every single room!

MORE WEDDING PICS- Thanks Adams!
Our friends the Adams made sure to get lots of pictures for us at the wedding- I think it was mostly Meghan taking them so thanks lots and lots! It was a wonderful day from the start to the end- I was so surprised how bittersweet it was though! All during the week leading up to the wedding I kept wishing time would slow down- I felt like digging my heels into the ground as hard as I could to keep from everything passing by! There were so many times I looked at my sweet family and tried to take a mental picture so I could remember every second. The one picture I really wanted though is the one I can only have in my mind- of looking and seeing my children and their spouses, my cute husband, and Elder Holland together in the temple!
Linz really stressed about not wearing a veil, but I think the flowers were a great choice!
Lynn always worry about having to dance with the girls at their weddings- he has a very tender heart where his girls are concerned and he knew this was the last one!

GRANDPA LYNN- THE SUPERHERO or This could only happen to me!

So today something happened to me that I'm sure you'll all say "It could have happened to anyone" but really, it couldn't have. It's like when I swallowed the pop top off the can of soda and everyone said "It could have happened to anyone" and when I asked if they'd ever heard of anyone doing that and of course they had to say no they hadn't. Or like say the other night when walking into the Pleasant Grove Rodeo I fell to the ground in front of the WHOLE grandstand and was covered with dirt and straw and everyone of course said the same thing again, but have any of you ever done something like that? Of course not!
So on to today. After a YW activity at the house I was cleaning up- we had several young children here who had been playing in the playroom which is really our third garage converted. About 5:15 I took a book back to the room and let the door close behind me. Now this isn't just a normal door- it's a door going from our entryway into the garage so it locks FROM THE OUTSIDE of the room- yes, that's right, the outside. I turned around to go out, but found the door locked. No problem you think, call on your cell phone which you always have with you, but it was on the kitchen table- ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR!!! For a brief moment I panicked (alright, for a good 5 minutes), then slammed against the door with my shoulder and kicked it REALLY hard- these things only work in the movies. At this point I started to realize the lack of air- no window!!! I moved the castle tent, took the rolled up towel out of the little garage vent at the bottom of the wall and lay on the floor right in front of it and let the cool air (alright, somewhat cool air) calm me down. I then heard Trixie scratching and crying at the door trying to get in- I guess she decided not to disappoint me again like she did when I fell in the kitchen over the open drawer and couldn't get up (another one of those things that only happen to me) and told her to go get Lynn like Lassie would have- she just licked my face that time! I told her to go lay down and she finally gave up. As I lay on the floor I began wonder how long before Lynn would be home to rescue me- of course he had to go to San Diego today to look at a job so I figured by 8 at the latest. Then I began to worry that the girls would worry if they couldn't get ahold of me- then I realized maybe if they were worried they would come looking and I'd get rescued sooner! Then I thought- what if Lynn got in an accident coming home and they didn't know I was missing for days??? You know those poor people who die and no one finds them for weeks or even misses them? Okay, maybe I was getting a little worked up again but suddenly that little garage vent wasn't letting in much air. Then.....I heard what I prayed was Lynn's truck pulling in the driveway! I heard the door close and the back door open and Lynn's voice yell "Hello?" I pounded on the playroom door and as it opened there stood my knight in shining armour with a little grin on his face and he simply asked "Exactly how long have you been locked in here?" It turned out to be 6:45 so about a hour and a half!!!
Of course Whit had started to worry when I didn't answer the phone and so did Mandy so they started to call around and Lynn assured them he would be home in 20 minutes or so and he was sure I was probably just in the shower and didn't realize my phone was off. So all's well that ends well- at least I know If I go missing my family will worry! And best of all, sweet Emma called to see if I was okay. She said that it sounded "very, very, very, VERY scary" and she wanted to know how I got out. When I told her Grandpa rescued me and was my hero she said "Oh, I think my Grandpa is a SUPERHERO now!" So there is a darling little four year old out there that is pretty sure her Grandpa is amazing and if nothing else that made today okay! And let me know if you know anyone else who's ever been locked in a room in their own house for a hour and a half.....I thought not!!!

THE WEDDING!
So yes, the wedding is over! It was an amazing day and Lynn and I feel so blessed to have had all the girls and their husbands in the temple- it was a little glimpse of how wonderful it will be to be together forever! The sealing was beautiful- Elder Holland married them and he just brought such a spirit to the room. Thanks to everyone who traveled to help us celebrate- we love you all so much!

FEELING A LITTLE MELANCHOLY

So just a little post on this sad sad day- on Tuesday night Lynn and I had to drop Lindsey off at the airport to fly up to Utah for the wedding. We realized then that we will never have a daughter with our last name living with us again! Ryan is out of town this week, so on Monday Whit came to the house and the three of us went shopping and out to lunch and then she spent the night on Lizzy's last night home. I slept on our couch with the girls and Trixie while Lynn snored away in our bed. I found myself looking at these two beautiful girls and wondered if there was anyway I could spin time back and have them in high school again! It's been so lovely watching Mandy and Chels become moms and form their own families- but it was so nice to still have the two "little" girls around knowing that we didn't have to share them with children or spouses- yes, I know Whit's been married a year now, but Ryan has been the best son-in-law in the world by having a job that he has to travel so we get to have Whit around more! I know time marches on and all that stuff but it's so hard to have that part of our time with our children over. There are great times to come and we love our sons-in-laws, and think grandchildren are probably the MOST AMAZING CREATURES in the world, but those little pangs as our children grow and leave our home hurt just the same!

HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY WHIT (Again I'm Late)!
Whitney and Ryan on her birthdaySo as usual, I'm late with the birthday wishes- I really am starting to believe, like my mom told me, that I'll be late for my own funeral! Whitney turned the big 21 on May 19 and is now an "official" adult- so sad that our baby is that old! She has been a joy AND a challenge in our lives (but way more joy)- Lynn and I have always felt so blessed to be gifted with her. Whit and her dad have such a close relationship and Lynn so is sad sometimes that she isn't still at home watching the Simpsons with him. We love watching her and Ryan learn to be a family and love that she added him to our family. She is a WAY better cook than her mom, WAY more patient than her mom, WAY more organized than her mom, and WAY more on time than her mom! So happy birthday Whitney- we love you LOTS and LOTS!
